Who are we & what’s our purpose?

Hey it’s me again…

I’m that friend that replies to a message but forgets to hit send…It’s been a bit, life has been super crazy fast lately and I’m trying to keep up! That’s what happens when you are trying to do too many things at once, sometimes we just need to take a deep breath and slow down some and enjoy it all.

There has been so many times I started to write, and then my brain took a overwhelming turn and I had so much to say, on so many different topics. But it felt all too much at once & I should split it up into smaller blogs, you know bite size pieces. I’ll work on this, ok?

I feel like it’s important to know who we are and what we are about before we dive into what we have and how we can help others.

We started this farm on a whim, and it escalated quickly, kinda like when I started the boutique, it was supposed to be just a building to store my stuff and quickly it became so much more! Oh, that’s right! I haven’t told you about that yet. So let’s start with my love for helping others, it goes hand in hand after all. I have a 14 year nursing career before I went into sales and enjoying the feeling I got when I helped people solve problems, bringing a smile to their face and just make them feel good!

I started a little clothing boutique out of the trunk of my car over 8 years ago and over 6.5 years ago I opened up my “dream store” in our small town!

I lost my dad in an accident less than 6 months later on the farm and then shortly after that all Covid hit us. Let’s just say that was a hard hit in life…. Support of friends, family & a therapist got me through it all and got me back on track, but it took some time. During this time I found a love and passion for more than just our fur kids, I missed the farm days and oh did I want some goats!(I’ve been wanting goats since I can remember seeing them at st Clair livestock auction and letting them babies suck on my fingers.)

So, that kinda shows you who I am and where my heart is. Helping others and my love for animals.

Jon & I have been together 20 years, and he’s a Plant manager at his factory for the past 18 years. I guess that really does bring us to the next chapter in it all.

Why did we decide to start a farm?

Well, it sure wasn’t planned and it started with baby goats, guineas and chickens, from there the sky is the limit lol 😆 no not really, I have stipulations made by the hubby and one being we can’t own anything we can’t take out if we needed to 😂 so, I guess we aren’t getting that Emu or Llamas I always wanted anytime soon.

So, then we just started adding different farm friends to our little farm and then I started getting asked what was our “purpose” for the animals?

Pets of course and if any needy animals need homes here we are. Let’s just say throwing that offer out there isn’t the thing I’d suggest. For one, bringing new animals in and not properly quarantining can be dangerous and devastating! I’ve seen people lose their whole Herd/flocks and it’s just so risky bringing a new animal without proper precautions in place for them and others. Then the next reason I’d say is “everyone” will be contacting you to take in their “unwanted” animals, it’s overwhelming & it’s hard to say no. You want to help where you can when you can. Did I mention I was in animal rescue for over 10 years helped pull thousands of dogs and cats from kill shelters around Missouri? Oh yes, that was another time in my life, we even had a non profit 501c3 group, we were all volunteers doing it for no pay but the love of animals and saving lives. It’s an amazing feeling helping others in need, especially for the voiceless (children, victims of abuse, animals, homeless & the elderly.) I got that from my dad, we were always saving animals on the side of the road and from Walmart or the feed store lol 😂 so, it’s in my blood for sure and I love it. I retired from the rescue life, it was tough and I did a lot of good and I’m so thankful for all the people I met along the way.

So, see we got off track again and that was my fear, so let’s get back to what our purpose is for the farm now.

So, they all are our pets, we love them and adore them and take pride in taking care of them and giving them a nice 🏠

We do need some help feeding ourselves and of course all these mouths now. So we have eggs for eating, hatching and selling. We are hoping we can raise our own chickens & Pigs for the food on our table, again not our pets though lol 😂 I seriously doubt I’ll ever process my own animals, I just don’t have the heart and I know Jon sure doesn’t want to. I am hoping we can get to the point to send who we raise to be processed and put food on our table for us all, including you!

So, baby steps on this process. My thoughts and goals for us is to supply others with pets & a food supply source. I will be happy to be a mentor and help guide you on raising anything I have here on the farm. I will give you advice, tips and tricks learned along the way. You’ll see my failures and my successes by following along on our journey and hopefully learn some things. Gosh, this was a lot, more than I wanted to start off with, but I sure hope this info helps someone else and tells you a little about us.
